Prince Harry Redirects Diana-Linked Funds After Bitter Sentebale Fallout

Prince Harry’s relationship with Sentebale was once one of the safest chapters of his public story. Now, even that relationship has become another royal controversy.

Fresh attention is focusing on Harry’s decision to redirect money linked to the Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fund away from Sentebale, the charity he co-founded in 2006, and toward Elephants Without Borders, a Botswana-based conservation organization with which he has longstanding ties.

On its own, changing the recipient of a charitable contribution would hardly qualify as a royal earthquake. The timing, however, is doing most of the talking.

Harry’s relationship with Sentebale has deteriorated dramatically following a highly public leadership dispute involving the charity’s chair, Dr. Sophie Chandauka. Harry and other trustees stepped away, allegations were exchanged publicly, and what had once been one of the Duke of Sussex’s signature charitable projects became defined by internal conflict.

The source video takes an extremely critical interpretation of Harry’s latest decision, repeatedly suggesting that redirecting the funds represents “revenge” against Sentebale and Chandauka.

That motive has not been established.

Harry’s private reasoning is unknown, and supporting Elephants Without Borders is itself a legitimate charitable choice.

But the optics are undeniably complicated.

According to figures cited in the commentary, Sentebale previously received Harry’s share of income associated with the Diana fund arrangement, including more than £16,000 in 2024.

For 2025, approximately £5,000 was instead directed toward Elephants Without Borders.

The amount itself is relatively modest.

And strangely, that may be precisely why critics find the decision so symbolic.

Nobody is suggesting several thousand pounds represents a financial crisis for Harry. Nor would such a contribution alone determine Sentebale’s future.

Instead, the change appears to publicly underline something already obvious: Harry’s relationship with the organization he helped create has fundamentally changed.

That is significant because Sentebale was never just another name on Harry’s charity calendar.

Created with Prince Seeiso of Lesotho, the organization was closely connected to Harry’s humanitarian identity and his desire to continue elements of Princess Diana’s legacy.

Its work supporting children and young people affected by HIV, poverty and inequality in southern Africa gave Harry a meaningful platform long before “Megxit,” Netflix documentaries, memoirs and family disputes dominated coverage of him.

For years, even many critics of Harry treated Sentebale as evidence of serious long-term charitable commitment.

That is why its collapse into public disagreement has been so damaging.

The source video also repeatedly brings Meghan Markle into the dispute, pointing toward previously reported tensions involving Chandauka and Meghan.

However, there is no evidence presented establishing that Meghan ordered or controlled Harry’s decision to redirect these funds.

That distinction matters.

It is possible to examine Meghan’s place within the wider Sentebale controversy without assigning her responsibility for a financial decision that has not been shown to be hers.

Harry, meanwhile, faces a difficult public-relations equation.

Continuing to direct money toward an organization with which he is now in serious conflict could look unusual.

Stopping those contributions, however, inevitably invites accusations that he is retaliating.

It is almost a no-win scenario.

Then there is the new beneficiary.

Elephants Without Borders operates in Botswana, a country with enormous personal significance for Harry. His relationship with conservation work there predates much of the current Sussex drama.

The source also highlights reports of elephants associated with the names Archie and Lili, creating another personal connection between the organization and the Sussex family.

Supporting wildlife conservation therefore does not appear random.

But critics see an uncomfortable contrast.

Sentebale represents Harry’s old humanitarian identity and his connection to vulnerable young people in southern Africa.

Elephants Without Borders represents a cause that remains personally meaningful without carrying the same bitter organizational dispute.

Seen from that perspective, the funding change could simply represent Harry moving his charitable support toward an organization where he still has a positive relationship.

Seen by his critics, it looks like a pointed rejection of Sentebale.

Without evidence of Harry’s private motivation, neither interpretation should automatically be presented as fact.

What can be said with considerably more confidence is that Sentebale has become another serious reputational problem for Harry.

This is particularly striking because philanthropy has remained central to the identity Harry and Meghan attempted to build after leaving frontline royal duties.

Their post-royal brand has emphasized service, veterans, mental health, community work and humanitarian causes.

When one of Harry’s longest-standing charitable relationships becomes defined by resignations, allegations and public hostility, that carefully constructed image inevitably takes a hit.

And that may ultimately matter more than £5,000.

The real story is not that elephants received money instead of another charity.

It is that Harry reached a point where a charity he helped establish in his mother’s memory no longer appears to be part of his philanthropic future.

Whatever happened behind the scenes, that represents a remarkable transformation.

Sentebale once symbolized continuity between Diana’s humanitarian legacy and Harry’s own.

Today, it symbolizes a relationship that has spectacularly broken down.

Whether redirecting the money was simply the logical conclusion of that separation or something more emotionally motivated remains unknown.

But one message appears difficult to miss.

Harry has moved on.

And in royal life, sometimes a few thousand pounds can make a much louder statement than a million-dollar interview. 👑
