Meghan Markle Faces Renewed Career Questions As Financial Pressure Reports Grow Around Sussex Brand

Meghan Markle is once again facing renewed public scrutiny as reports claim the Duchess of Sussex may be considering a return to acting while financial pressure continues to surround the Sussex household.

The latest conversation began after media reports suggested that Meghan and Prince Harry’s lifestyle in Montecito remains extremely expensive, with annual costs reportedly reaching several million dollars. These expenses are said to include home payments, security arrangements, staffing, travel, and the general cost of maintaining their public-facing operation in California.

According to recent commentary, Meghan is now being viewed by some observers as the more commercially active figure in the Sussex partnership. Her lifestyle brand, As Ever, has become a major focus of her post-royal identity, but the brand has also faced repeated questions about product strategy, sales momentum, and long-term public appeal.

At the same time, reports have circulated suggesting Meghan may be open to returning to television or acting work. While Sussex insiders have reportedly denied claims that she is actively seeking a regular TV role, the speculation has continued because of the wider financial discussion surrounding the couple.

Before marrying Prince Harry, Meghan was best known for her role in the legal drama Suits. That connection has remained central to public discussions about whether she could realistically return to scripted entertainment. However, critics argue that her public profile has changed dramatically since her acting years, making any potential return more complicated.

Hollywood has become increasingly cautious about attaching major productions to public figures who may attract controversy. For Meghan, the challenge would not only be securing a role, but convincing studios, streamers, and audiences that her presence would strengthen rather than distract from a project.

The discussion has also renewed debate about whether Meghan’s commercial power has been overstated. Supporters argue that she still commands global attention and has the ability to generate headlines instantly. Critics argue that attention does not always translate into revenue, audience loyalty, or sustainable business success.

Prince Harry’s financial role has also become part of the conversation. His memoir Spare generated major global attention and reportedly brought in significant earnings, but commentators note that such deals are not easily repeated. His charitable work, especially through Invictus, remains important to his public identity, but philanthropy does not provide the same kind of direct commercial income as media deals or entertainment contracts.

This has created a difficult question for the Sussex brand: where does the next major income stream come from?

Meghan’s As Ever brand appears designed to answer that question, but it still faces the challenge of proving that it can succeed beyond curiosity purchases, celebrity attention, and royal association. A lifestyle brand requires trust, consistency, product quality, and repeat customers. Without those elements, even strong media visibility can fade quickly.

The latest reports also show how strongly Meghan and Harry remain tied to their royal past. Even when the discussion focuses on money, acting, candles, lifestyle products, or public appearances, the royal connection remains the foundation of public interest.

That connection is both an advantage and a limitation. It keeps them relevant, but it also ensures that every career move is judged against their departure from royal life and their past criticism of the institution.

For Meghan, a return to acting would represent a major shift. It could offer a new professional path, but it would also invite direct comparison with her pre-royal career. For Harry, the pressure remains different but equally significant, as public interest in his work continues to depend heavily on his identity as the king’s younger son.

The wider question is whether the Sussexes can build a stable future that is not dependent on controversy, royal tension, or nostalgic interest in their past.

For now, the reports suggest one clear reality: Meghan and Harry remain highly visible, but visibility alone may not be enough to sustain the lifestyle and public platform they have built.
