Prince Harry Marks WellChild Visit as Invictus Games Countdown Begins Ahead of Birmingham 2027

The official countdown to the 2027 Invictus Games began on July 9 with a ceremonial event at London's Euston Station, marking exactly one year until Birmingham hosts the international competition for wounded, injured, and sick military personnel.

As part of the launch, a specially branded "Spirit of Invictus" train was unveiled in the Games' signature black and gold colors. The event celebrated the upcoming competition, which is scheduled to take place from July 10 to July 17, 2027, with participating teams expected from more than 20 nations.

Representatives connected to the Invictus community attended the ceremony, including former competitors who shared personal experiences about the impact the Games have had on recovery, rehabilitation, and long-term support for veterans and service members.

While the London launch took place, Prince Harry was carrying out a separate official engagement in Birmingham through his long-standing patronage of WellChild.

The Duke of Sussex visited Birmingham Children's Hospital to recognize the 20th anniversary of the WellChild Nurse Programme. During the visit, he met specialist children's nurses, healthcare professionals, patients, and families whose children receive complex medical care at home.

The engagement highlighted the work performed by WellChild nurses, who support families caring for children with serious and long-term medical conditions outside hospital settings.
