Meghan Markle’s As Ever Brand Faces Questions Over Influencer Collaboration Disclosure

Meghan Markle’s lifestyle brand, As Ever, is once again drawing attention after a recent influencer post sparked questions about marketing transparency, brand communication, and how partnerships are presented to the public.

The discussion began when influencer Olivia McDow shared Instagram Stories featuring As Ever products and described the content as a “collab” and a “dream partnership.” That wording quickly became the center of debate because the full video appeared on As Ever’s official Instagram account rather than as a permanent post on McDow’s own feed.

For many observers, the language created confusion. In the creator economy, terms such as “collab” and “partnership” often suggest some kind of relationship between a brand and an influencer. That relationship could involve payment, gifting, product exchange, content licensing, or another formal agreement.

The issue is not that As Ever may have worked with a creator. Brand collaborations are a normal part of modern marketing. The concern is whether the audience was given enough clarity to understand what kind of content they were watching.

From a public relations perspective, disclosure matters because it builds trust. If a creator receives payment, free products, or any other benefit in exchange for content, audiences generally expect that relationship to be made clear. Even when no legal conclusion can be made from the outside, unclear presentation can still create reputational risk.

In this case, McDow’s own Story appeared to suggest a partnership, while the As Ever post did not appear to provide a visible explanation of the arrangement. That gap led viewers to ask whether the content was paid, gifted, commissioned, reposted, or simply created as part of a casual brand interaction.

For a young lifestyle brand, that uncertainty can be damaging. As Ever has already faced close public attention over its product choices, limited drops, pricing, and curated brand image. Because Meghan Markle is such a high-profile founder, even small marketing details are examined closely.

That means As Ever operates in a more sensitive environment than many other lifestyle companies. A simple hosting video can easily become a broader conversation about trust, polish, and transparency.

The content itself was styled in a soft lifestyle format, showing summer hosting tips and As Ever products in a polished domestic setting. Visually, it fits the image Meghan’s brand appears to be building: elegant, intimate, and carefully curated.

However, attractive visuals do not solve basic communication questions. If an audience has to guess whether something is advertising, organic support, gifted promotion, or paid collaboration, the brand risks losing control of the message.

That is especially important because As Ever is still trying to define itself beyond celebrity curiosity. Long-term success will depend not only on visual appeal, but also on consumer confidence.

A clearer caption could have avoided much of the confusion. If the content was a paid partnership, that could have been stated directly. If the products were gifted, that could have been disclosed. If As Ever simply reposted or commissioned creator content, that could also have been explained.

Modern consumers are not against influencer marketing. In many cases, audiences expect brands to work with creators. What audiences dislike is uncertainty. Transparency protects the creator, the brand, and the public at the same time.

The fact that McDow shared the content on Stories rather than permanently on her own feed also became part of the discussion. Some observers viewed that as a strategic choice, allowing the creator to acknowledge the brand connection while keeping her main page separate. Others saw it as normal influencer behavior.

Either way, the conversation shows how easily brand messaging can become complicated when communication is not direct.

For As Ever, the lesson is clear. A lifestyle brand built on elegance, intimacy, and trust must also be precise. Beautiful content can attract attention, but clear communication is what builds credibility.

As Meghan Markle continues developing As Ever, each collaboration will be judged not only by how it looks, but by how transparently it is presented. In a crowded lifestyle market, trust may become the brand’s most valuable product.
