Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Charity Empire Faces IRS Scrutiny After Polo Scandal

The walls of Montecito are starting to shake. What was once hailed as a royal redemption story has turned into a financial nightmare, as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s charity world faces growing scrutiny from the IRS.

Prince Harry’s longtime charity, Sentebale, has abruptly canceled its annual celebrity polo event — a fundraiser that had become a key piece of his public image as a “global humanitarian.” The official reason, according to board member Ian Rollinson, was that the events had put “too much pressure on individuals” and exposed “structural weaknesses” in the charity’s financial model.

But behind the polished PR statement, insiders tell a darker story. Sentebale has been running at a loss for over seven years, despite hosting lavish, star-studded events in Aspen, Singapore, and Windsor. Harry even used £1.2 million from his tell-all memoir *Spare* to prop up the organization — a move that now looks more like a desperate bailout than an act of generosity.

Multiple trustees, including Chairwoman Sophie Chanda, have reportedly resigned after raising concerns about harassment and mismanagement inside the organization. The exodus left Harry with no choice but to withdraw as patron, and with that, the entire operation began to crumble.

The situation has raised eyebrows among U.S. authorities. With Harry and Meghan’s American foundation, Archewell, intertwined with Sentebale’s operations, the IRS is reportedly examining potential irregularities in cross-border donations and expenses. Allegations of inflated costs, hidden donor networks, and questionable spending are fueling speculation that a formal investigation may already be underway.

It’s the latest blow for a couple whose public image has been built on moral lectures and philanthropy. From royal rebels to global entrepreneurs, Harry and Meghan’s empire now looks increasingly fragile. What was once marketed as “a life of purpose” may soon be remembered as a story of excess, hypocrisy, and financial collapse.

As one royal insider put it bluntly: “This isn’t just about charity. This is about accountability — and the bill is finally coming due.”
